President: Dr. Martha C. Piper
Our university profile
The University of British Columbia is situated on two major campuses (Vancouver and Kelowna) that include some of the most spectacular natural settings in North America. More than 42,000 students attend the main Vancouver Campus just a few kilometres from the city’s downtown, while 3, 500 students attend the UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna (opened September 2005). UBC also has a downtown campus located at Robson Square, is a member of the Great Northern Way consortium, a new downtown site for high-tech research and development, and the UBC Asia Pacific Regional Office in Hong Kong (opened May 2005). UBC’s strong academic and research programs, high quality faculty, diverse student body and proximity to the Pacific Rim combine to make it one of Canada’s finest universities.
UBC is a research-intensive university. On the Vancouver campus, teaching and research are conducted in 12 faculties and all disciplines, including a wide range of professional programs. Many of its physical and life sciences programs, Asian studies and environmental programs are leaders in their fields. UBC Okanagan offers a variety of teaching and research opportunities in the following areas: the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences, and the faculties of creative and critical studies, education, engineering, management, nursing and social work.
The university’s outstanding faculty are recognized with many national and international research and teaching awards and prizes, including the 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry awarded to the late Michael Smith. UBC scholars are among the most cited Canadian researchers in the world’s top scientific and technical journals. UBC consistently ranks among the world’s 50 best universities in rankings by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Times Higher Education Supplement, one of only two Canadian universities able to make that claim. More than 150 UBC faculty are fellows of the Royal Society of Canada. UBC researchers are members of 18 of the 19 networks in the federal government’s Networks of Centres of Excellence program, and one network is headquartered at UBC. UBC has also been allocated 156 Canada Research Chairs over the five-year term of the CRC program. UBC consistently ranks among the top 10 North American universities for the number of spin-off companies created from research each year.
Outstanding students from British Columbia, Canada and abroad add to a stimulating and challenging intellectual environment. With its First Nations Longhouse, Downtown Eastside Learning Exchange, and Access and Diversity services, UBC endeavours to be accessible to all. The university library has 22 branches and service divisions, including three that serve off-campus affiliated teaching hospitals and one at Robson Square. UBC’s athletics and recreation department offers a wide range of recreational sport and fitness opportunities to more than 40,000 students annually and also administers one of Canada’s most successful interuniversity athletic programs.

Our university profile
Emily Carr is dedicated to fostering an educational environment that is professional, practice-oriented and at the same time rooted in history and critical theory. Our three degrees in visual arts, media arts and design offer a careful balance of studio and academic programming. What students bring to Emily Carr * experience, vision, energy, discipline and commitment * is balanced by what the institute offers in quality, breadth, vision and choice. Students who come to Emily Carr will find themselves working in studios, classrooms, the concourse gallery, and interning with community groups or at a local company. Our co-op program is one of the most active in British Columbia.
Over the last 80 years, the institute has had an enormous influence on the development and growth of the arts in Canada and internationally. Our alumni and faculty are among the most influential and important artists working in their respective fields. Our students go on to careers in many different fields, as well as being accepted into graduate studies in all of the major universities and art institutions in the world.
Emily Carr Institute encourages its students to develop new and innovative ways of thinking and creating. At the same time, we encourage students to prepare themselves for life after school. We are a learning community devoted to excellence and innovation in visual arts, media arts and design. Our curriculum is flexible, personal, multidisciplinary and based on the learning needs of students.

President: Dr. Charles Jago
Our university profile
The University of Northern British Columbia opened in 1994 and currently has nearly 3,500 students. As a young and small university, UNBC offers a young faculty of accomplished scholars and a commitment to personalized education. The university has a particular focus on the social, economic and environmental issues of the North; and students come from around British Columbia and the world for small classes and a hands-on learning environment. This emphasis is evident in its teaching, research, and community service.
Most students attend the core campus in Prince George, a city of 81,000 people located in central British Columbia. However, the university is committed to serving all of northern British Columbia and thus offers classes and research stations throughout the region. Its main regional campuses are in Terrace, Fort St. John, and Quesnel. UNBC offers an excellent cooperative education option that allows many students to gain employment experience while pursuing their studies. The campus also has state-of-the-art technology, thanks to its fibre optic telecommunication backbone and campus wide wireless access.

McMaster University

Hamilton, Ontario L8S 4K1
Telephone: (905) 525-9140
President: Dr. Peter George
Our university profile
Founded in 1887, McMaster University owes its origin to the personal fortune of Senator William McMaster, one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs of the 19th century. Today, McMaster’s beautiful, tree-lined campus bustles with more than 20,000 full-time and 3,500 part-time students and boasts some of the best facilities in Canada, including a research nuclear reactor, an extensive library system and one of the finest public art galleries in the country.
These facilities support a rich variety of programs that have made McMaster one of the top teaching and research institutions in Canada. Our innovations are many: the first medical school to train doctors using small-group, problem-based learning; unique limited enrolment programs in arts and science and health sciences that promote in-depth interaction of students and faculty across the disciplines and programs that stress critical thinking and problem-solving skills to give our graduates an edge in the emerging knowledge-based, global economy.
In addition, McMaster offers cooperative education, internships and experiential education, which allows many students to combine their studies with employment experience.
